The Arado Ar 196 was the best known and best float plane of the Second World War. Its sphere of operations extended from Crete via the Black Sea to the far north. In addition to coastal reconnaissance it also flew missions against submarines and small shipping units. The Arado Ar 196 was also stationed on the battle ships Tirpitz and Bismarck.
