As the first member of class (originally to be designated Class 87/2 as the locomotives were seen as an upgraded version of the existing Class 87s), 90001 initially went to the Rail Technical Centre at Derby for testing in October 1987.
It entered service at Willesden depot in October 1987 and, in 1989, was named ‘BBC Midlands Today’. That name was removed in 2004 and, ten years later, it was given the name ‘Crown Point’ while based at Norwich with Abellio Greater Anglia.
In April 2020, it was bought by Locomotive Services Limited, Crewe for main line excursion work. They repainted it in its original InterCity ‘Swallow’ livery and renamed it ‘Royal Scot’. It is one of three Class 90s currently owned by LSL, the others being 90002 and 90026.
This RailRoad model brings the locomotive to life in OO scale form, but with more durable features than found on our main range. It is also pre-fitted with a DCC sound chip, for the most authentic model railway experience.
